Soroptimist International of Bournemouth have organised an exciting evening of song, dance and big band music at the Bournemouth Pavilion Ballroom on Saturday, 15th May.

The evening will feature the amazing vocals of Anthony Adams (star of the hit BBC show, ‘The One and Only’) and local up and coming star, Vicky Barents.

The evening will include dance demonstrations and workshops by the award winning ‘Cuba Salsa Sensation, Enrique |Perez and also Paul ‘The Thing’ Walker demonstrating South Coast Modern Jive.

Dance the night away to a fantastic selection of big band music provided by ‘In the Pink’ Big Band.  This will include a variety of classic big band dance numbers alongside the more modern latin and jazz to suit all tastes.

Mr Aziz who already supports other educational projects in Bangladesh laid on an evening of traditional Bengali food. The evening was made more special by the entertainment provided by Bengali dancers.

Members of Cementing Futures gave a presentation at the event wearing authentic dress which added to the overall Asian feel of the evening.

During a journey back to our hosts, I instructed the driver to drop myself and the cameraman in one part of a main shopping area of Dhaka.  We then walked a little distance to another part of the shopping area which is not far from where we are staying so we thought it would be fine as we could walk back anytime we wished.

However, we realised that the ladies here in Bangladesh may get upset with the driver, and not wanting to get him into any trouble on our account we phoned him and tried to tell him where to pick us up.

I obviously wasn’t very successful and after still waiting for a further 40 mins for him to find us I in the end asked a local to tell him where we were.   The car arrived shortly after and after swearing the driver to secrecy, we got back, said nothing thinking that nobody would know.

The next day we found out that the driver, concerned that he had lost us had phoned one of our hosts and the Soroptimist club here in Dhaka had been phoning round trying to find us, so we had been found out after all!!

Well have just arrived in Dhaka from Bournemouth after a journey time of 21 hours which included an unscheduled 7 hour stop over in Bahrain due to a delay in our connecting flight to Dhaka.  Please, please, please and even pretty please BA, …………..can you re-instate your direct flights from the UK to Dhaka!!!

The staff at Forest Spice laid on an excellent array of dishes which were enjoyed by all, and Debbie volunteered to be the model. The evening raised £536 for the Cementing Futures Bangledesh School project.
