High levels of illiteracy in Bangladesh are a major problem. This is seen most in the poverty stricken areas where children have problems accessing schools and when they are able to attend have huge drop out rates because of their family circumstances.
Cementing Futures is working in partnership with Nijera Shikhi NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) in Bangladesh to provide a new school building in a poverty stricken area of Dhaka.
A major problem is that much of the ‘schooling’ is given in rented properties, with no security of tenure. There is no continuity to the site of the schools and the children only have access to the buildings as dictated by the landlords. The buildings are often used for a host of other purposes, there are no storage facilities and the premises are often run down and in a dilapidated condition.
We aim to overcome obstacles to education by providing:
